High speed data transfer through TENET and UbuntuNet

A high-speed transfer of real scientific data took place for the first time on September 30, 2010 via the UbuntuNet-GEANT connection.

With a sustained speed of about 1Gbps, the data were streamed from Hartebeesthoek via the SANReN infrastructure in South Africa, via TENET’s SEACOM submarine capacity to the UbuntuNet router in DANTE’s cage in London, and thence via GÉANT to the VLBI correlation centre in the Netherlands.
