The eI-Africa Conference proceedings are now online!
The “2010 Euro-Africa e-Infrastructures Conference” – the 1st of its series – was held in the capital city of Finland on December 9-10, 2010 with the aim of providing a forum for discussions and debates on recent developments and perspectives in the field. The conference proceedings are now available online.

eLearning Africa Photo Competition on ICTs
The 2nd eLearning Africa Photo Competition “Capture this! How ICTs are empowering people across Africa” aims to capture how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can nurture talent, skills and innovation across Africa. Photos must depict outstanding achievements in Africa empowered by ICTs, or that show innovative ways in which ICTs can foster the growth of people, communities and society in any sector of life (health, agriculture, business, community life or education,etc.).

TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits
The TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme provides postdoctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) with the opportunity to make a ‘Cooperation Visit’ to an institute in Germany of no more than 3 months.
The aim of the visit is to discuss research collaboration with German scientists, possibly including some preliminary experiments, with the ultimate goal of developing longer-term collaboration.

Report: key lessons of ICT4D partnerships for poverty reduction
ICT4D Collective published a report on the key lessons of ICT4D partnerships for poverty reduction as part of DFIDs new series of systematic reviews. The main aim of this report is to summarise the evidence available on the effects of ICT4D partnerships on poverty reduction.

Africa to bid for world’s largest telescope
Africa is bidding to host the world’s largest Telescope, that would make the continent a major hub for astronomy in the world.
The Minister of Environment Science and Technology of Ghana, Ms Sherry Ayittey, said on Tuesday (March 8, 2011) that, if Africa won the bid to be announced in the middle of 2012, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Project, which would be one of the largest scientific research facilities in the world, would consolidate Africa as a major hub for astronomy.

The GLOBAL project has successfully ended
The EU FP7 GLOBAL project (Global Linkage Over BroadBand Links) officially ended on the 31st of October 2010. The project worked on enabling researchers around the globe to set up and expand their virtual communities for exchanging the latest findings, presenting project results, sharing documents and media files, or simply to socialising and connecting with each other by means of virtual conferencing
