BELIEF-II Kicks off!

After the positive results achieved by the BELIEF project in its first phase (2005-2007) , BELIEF-II (Bringing Europe’s eLectronic Infrastructures to Expanding Frontiers) is proud to announce that the second phase has been officially launched during its kick-off meeting, held in Pisa on the 14-15 April 2008.

The event was attended by its seven partners including the two new international ones: Brunel University in the U.K and the Meraka Institute in South Africa, who joined the consortium broadening its international spirit.

BELIEF-II with the aim of supporting e-Infrastructure projects in order to maximise synergies between Research, Scientific and Industrial Communities in specific application areas.

Building on the successes achieved in its first phase, BELIEF-II has the strategic objective of coordinating the communication of the results achieved by all the e-Infrastructure projects, thanks to the organisation of networking activities and to the promotion of the worldwide initiatives which could be of great interest for the future potential users.

As coordinator of the International e-Infrastructure communication BELIEF-II will:

* Make sure e-Infrastructure projects work in synergy with one another advancing in the same direction of the national initiatives so to have a fruitful interaction and a mutual cooperation;
* Reinforce the relevance of e-Infrastructures worldwide, thus helping sustain their successful development and exploitation globally;
* Develop stronger co-operation links with emerging economies, specifically in Latin America, India and South Africa.

In order to achieve these goals, the project will provide a communication platform that will, at the same time, allow the e-Infrastructure projects to manage their contents, communicate their activities to the users and to the public, and have a unique access point to find out more about e-Infrastructures.

The new networking platform will be launched in August 2008 and, combined with an empowered by the Digital Library, it will become soon THE one-stop-shop for the global e-Infrastructures community.

Interactions and synergies will be supported also by a series of high profiled international events such as 2 eConcertation meetings, 2 Brainstorming Workshops and 3 International Symposia gathering major decision-makers, top researchers, scientific policy-makers and industrial organisations and focusing on a future framework for a common agenda for e-Infrastructure research in the world.

These events aim to tackle technological topics and help build alliances between Scientific and Industrial communities.

A suite of Joint Communications Products will be created, including 4 editions of an e-Infrastructures News Magazine, a DVD, one edition of an e-Infrastructures Guide booklet and one EC e-Infrastructures dissemination publication.

Technical reports will be delivered on issues raised, results & joint solutions proposed by projects and the symposia proceedings will be published.
