Announcing the Second GENESI-DR Workshop.
The GENESI-DR consortium is pleased to invite you to this event that focuses on Earth observation data policy issues The meeting will take place in Villafranca, Spain on 4 December 2009.
Directions can be found at http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/ESAC/SEMQFW5Y3EE_0.html.
GENESI-DR, short for Ground European Network for Earth Science Interoperations, is a project co-funded by the EC as part of their 7th Framework Programme, implemented by a consortium of European leaders in Earth Science data managed by the European Space Agency (ESA) with the challenge to establish open and seamless access to Earth science data. As part of the project we are organizing a series of workshops focused on EO data policy issues involving key-players and confronting them with relevant developments and issues hindering scientists today from accessing the data they need.
The 2nd workshop will build on results of the 1st workshop where existing Earth Science data archiving and data dissemination policies were discussed (a report is available at http://www.genesi-dr.eu/index.php?menu=event&idEvent=39) and will take into account the following relevant developments:
GEO has established a Data Sharing Task Force (DSTF) to look at possible ways and means to implement the GEOSS Data Sharing Principles (DSP) (q.v. http://earthobservations.org/geoss_dsp.shtml);
INSPIRE is not only a mandatory directive - Implementing Rules (IR) are adopted in a number of specific areas (Metadata, Data Specifications, Network Services, Data and Service Sharing, Monitoring and Reporting);
ESA and the European Commission have proposed a GMES SENTINEL data policy for review and acceptance by the GMES governance bodies.
