Over the past few years, Green ICT has become a hot topic and is today at the heart of Europe’s efforts to tackle the problems of climate change and global warming. Although the reflections on Green ICT were originally limited to reducing the environmental impact of ICT products and devices – the “ICT carbon footprint” – it is now recognized that ICT can also have a major environmental impact by enabling energy efficiencies in other sectors. This eInfranet workshop will address both sides of the challenge and will present some of the most original projects and initiatives in the field, from the development of greener e-Infrastructures, data centers, and computers to the use of the enabling effect of ICT in education, government and industry. It will also review the EU and Members States’ green strategies and policies with keynotes from EC and eInfranet partners’ government representatives, and see how to raise awareness on Green IT in businesses and society.
